Background and contextual information
Under the Volunteering for Development grant, DFID, VSO country office Pakistan will undertake foundational groundwork in the thematic sector of gender and social inclusion in order to develop a basis for its combating gender-based violence signature programme and conduct research to generate evidence on status of women/gender in Pakistan and demonstrate social exclusion trends, gaps and challenges. This intervention for year 1 will set forth work of VSO for the future and will identify key strategic relationships and enable VSO to be represented at high level meetings.
The role will create linkages and build relationships with key stakeholders (working on women/gender issues) from government, civil society, non-governmental organisations, the United Nations, international non-governmental organisations, activists, alliances and/or other relevant practitioners as well as maintain and sustain them. By strategic positioning, these relationships will enable VSO to identify future interventions as well as be able to have representation at meetings, events contributing towards the achievement of SDG5. This role is based in Islamabad with travel to the field occasionally to meet with and establish relationships with gender thematic working groups etc. for VSO to have representation at such high level meetings. This role will act as focal point for country advocacy and communication requirements and liaison with a range of stakeholders providing support,
Duties and Responsibilities
The advocacy and communication officer will coordinate and strategically support the advocacy positioning of the Pakistan Forum for Democratic Policing, the Advocacy Adviser, the provincial coordinator and Rozan.
In addition will provide support to VSO programme/project focal points in design of communication/ advocacy plans and knowledge/communication products such as standees, newsletters, fact sheets and infographics, success stories, documentaries etc.
Supports in the organization of meetings with key stakeholders including government, local representatives in gender and policing, GBV survivors and provides assistance in consultations for designing of the advocacy campaign.
Advocacy and Communication Strategies/ Plans
Facilitates, coordinates and supports design development of communication and advocacy strategies and plans with support of country, regional and global teams.
Knowledge products and IEC materials
Develops in coordination with Rozan and VSO communication and advocacy materials and
products intended for a diverse range of audience for strategic communication and for the design and implementation of advocacy campaigns.
Collaborates with country office teams, Government., communities, partners, volunteers and other stakeholders to ensure VSO Pakistan`s visibility ensuring compliance to branding and donor guidelines.
Facilitates developing and/or design of contents for success stories and case studies in close collaboration with country projects manager and M&E officer and project team.
Manage a range of digital platforms, including e-marketing, social media and other digital channels ensuring compliance to Cyber-crime laws and safeguarding content in line with sensitivities
Other Duties – Fulfil other appropriate level responsibilities as defined by the line manager.

Required Skills and Experience
Masters in social sciences, gender studies, international development or any related discipline with a focus on advocacy and communications.
2-3 years’ experience in advocacy and communications, branding, design of communication and knowledge products and stakeholders engagement.
Ability to work with diverse background of people and cultures,
Promoting learning and information sharing,
Strong verbal and written communication in English and Urdu
Ability to produce a variety of written and visual communication products in a clear and concise style
Shows pride in work and achievements

Advanced understanding and command over design and editing software like Coral Draw, Adobe Photoshop, MS publisher and movie maker’s tools.
Strong computer skills with expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Willingness to travel at times extensively
